A decade of experience in tumors of femur from local resection to amputation

Background: Femur is the most common site for long bone tumor especially in young adults. The main function of femur weight bearing and it plays a vital role stability gait. Methods: A total 42 patients underwent surgery tumors between 2013 2022 our institution. We analysed demographic data, type tumor, nature treatment given, functional outcome, complication rate nature, recurrence readmission patterns those patients. Results: Of surgeries, 35 were performed malignant femoral while remaining seven benign tumor. Among patients, 34 distal eight proximal which 3 resection with reconstruction. Osteosarcoma was In total, 30 custom made endo prosthesis (CMP) reconstruction after resection. Nine amputation. who CMP reconstruction, three salvaged amputation recurrence. Considering age one patient we did local cementing One expandable modular prosthesis. Conclusions: Limb salvage form has been standard care institution good outcome low morbidity rate. combination adequate clearance, prompt early physiotherapy better prosthetic design help to resume their day-to-day activities at earliest.
